Scarlett Johansson is an American actor and singer born in the city of New York, in the United States on the 22nd of November the 22nd of November, 1984. Her acting has earned an acclaim in a diverse range of genres including historical drama, thrillers and action adventures. Johansson is the daughter of a filmmaker and an architect. Her family was based in New York City. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. At a very young age she began to develop a passion for acting. She began performing in commercials by the age seven. She was enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute shortly after, and later went to the Professional Children's School, Manhattan to further her education. In the Off-Broadway play Sophistry she acted alongside Ethan Hawke. She then appeared in her first film in North (1994) and was written by Rob Reiner, at age nine. Johansson played the lead role as a character in Just Cause (1995), after which she made her debut in the film Manny & Lo - a tale about two sisters who are orphans that get away. The film, The Horse Whisperer, Johansson was a teenager who suffered an horrific crash. The role she played in Ghost World brought her more recognition as the troubled teenager Rebecca. She decided, like many actresses who are just getting started, to improve her skills in theatre. She took part in different projects within the USA in the midst of making her debut on stage.
